Localized and complete resonance in plasmonic structures

    Get PDF
This paper studies a possible connection between the way the time averaged electromagnetic power dissipated into heat blows up and the anomalous localized resonance in plasmonic structures. We show that there is a setting in which the localized resonance takes place whenever the resonance does and moreover, the power is always bounded and might go to 00. We also provide another setting in which the resonance is complete and the power goes to infinity whenever resonance occurs; as a consequence of this fact there is no localized resonance. This work is motivated from recent works on cloaking via anomalous localized resonance

Let A be a finitely generated associative algebra over an algebraically closed field. We characterize the finite dimensional modules over A whose orbit closures are regular varieties.Comment: 11 page

Bounds on the volume fraction of 2-phase, 2-dimensional elastic bodies and on (stress, strain) pairs in composites

    Get PDF
Bounds are obtained on the volume fraction in a two-dimensional body containing two elastically isotropic materials with known bulk and shear moduli. These bounds use information about the average stress and strain fields, energy, determinant of the stress, and determinant of the displacement gradient, which can be determined from measurements of the traction and displacement at the boundary. The bounds are sharp if in each phase certain displacement field components are constant. The inequalities we obtain also directly give bounds on the possible (average stress, average strain) pairs in a two-phase, two-dimensional, periodic or statistically homogeneous compositeComment: 16 pages, 2 figures, Submitted to Comptes Rendus Mecaniqu

Converting Graphic Relationships into Conditional Probabilities in Bayesian Network

    Get PDF
Bayesian network (BN) is a powerful mathematical tool for prediction and diagnosis applications. A large Bayesian network can constitute many simple networks, which in turn are constructed from simple graphs. A simple graph consists of one child node and many parent nodes. The strength of each relationship between a child node and a parent node is quantified by a weight and all relationships share the same semantics such as prerequisite, diagnostic, and aggregation. The research focuses on converting graphic relationships into conditional probabilities in order to construct a simple Bayesian network from a graph. Diagnostic relationship is the main research object, in which sufficient diagnostic proposition is proposed for validating diagnostic relationship. Relationship conversion is adhered to logic gates such as AND, OR, and XOR, which are essential features of the research

Medical Analysis Question and Answering Application for Internet Enabled Mobile Devices

    Get PDF
Mobile devices such as smart phones, the iPhone, and the iPad have become more popular in recent years. With access to the Internet through cellular or WIFI networks, these mobile devices can make use of the great source of information available on the Internet. Unlike a desktop or laptop computer, an Internet enabled mobile device is designed to be carried around and available to the owner almost instantly at any moment of the day. Despite having such great advantage and potential, searching for information with a mobile device remains a difficult task. Mobile device users have to juggle between different search engines through the web browser to seek useful information. The small screen of most mobile devices makes it very difficult to interact with the search engines using the device\u27s web browser. This project focuses on the development of a mobile application that attempts to make information searching easier for mobile device users. In addition, the application is designed to answer search queries that are related to the medical field. Search query in the medical field requires more selective results and that the results come from trusted 4 sources before it can be used. The application addresses this problem by introducing a database of community knowledge designed to store credible medically related articles that could help answer medical specific search queries. This would help minimize the need to look for answers from the Internet, which often could contain unreliable information. In addition to answering search queries, the application also allows user to store personal medical records and conveniently share that information as needed using email
